Set up or update a direct debit payment. Most people pay by direct debit. We have a choice of payment dates available: 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th of the month. We usually have to give the bank 14 days notice to set up a new or amended direct debit instruction. If you are requesting a new direct debit set up or a change thats within this time frame, you may need to either make the first payment manually by one of the following methods or your first direct debit payment (new or amended) will be for a double payment. Please check your bill carefully to see what the new instalments are.

If you have overpaid your council tax you will receive a bill saying that you are due a refund. We are only able to refund back to a bank account. How the refund is processed depends on how you pay your bill:
- If you pay by direct debit - you do not need to do anything. We will automatically refund to the bank account details held on record
- If you do not pay by direct debit - you need to complete the form - refund request for council tax overpayment
As part of the form, you will need to attach a copy of the front page of your bank statement or online banking for the account you wish the refund to be paid back to. This is a requirement to prevent and detect fraud and without this we will be unable to issue your refund back to you. We do not require any personal transaction data.
If you are signed up for online access to your council tax account you can upload your proof via your online account.
