Voting should be a smooth, independent, and straightforward process for everyone. We are committed to removing barriers and providing tailored support for voters who require additional assistance.

Elections Accessibility Support Service

To better support our electors, we maintain an Elections Accessibility Support Service. This is a proactive service that we have implemented to ensure voters receive the specific tools they need well ahead of peak voting/canvass times.

How it works

Rather than requiring voters to request assistance for every single election, the service will allow the Elections Team to reach out automatically. During our annual canvass or before an election, we check in to ensure the correct provisions are in place.

Available assistance

Those subscribed to the service can access a variety of resources, including:

  • Large Print: Ballot papers and registration forms.
  • Braille: Official ballot papers.
  • Tactile Devices: Tools to help mark ballot papers accurately.
  • Easy-Read Material: Simplified versions of complex election information.
  • Personalised Support: One-on-one help from our team to complete necessary forms.
  • Applications in different languages

Why register?

Registering for the service ensures that communication is effective and support is automatic. Our goal is to provide peace of mind, knowing that the tools for an independent vote will be delivered exactly when they are needed.

Signature waivers for postal votes

For many voters, providing a consistent signature can be a challenge due to a impairment or an ongoing health condition.

A signature waiver allows an individual to vote by post without the requirement to provide a signature on their postal voting statement. This ensures that an impairment does not exclude anybody from participating in the democratic process.
