Temporary employment with electoral services
Are you interested in helping us run local and national elections? Each year, the Returning Officer for the Warwick District area will appoint temporary staff to assist us at polling stations, the elections count and during the annual canvass.
We are looking for people with a good general level of education and general administration skills. No previous experience is needed, as full training will be given.

- Count Supervisor - applicants must have worked as a Verification/Count Assistant on two previous occasions before applying for this role
- Electoral Services Registration Canvasser
- Poll Clerk
- Postal Vote Opener -Vacancy full for May 2024
- Presiding Officer - applicants must have worked as a Poll Clerk on two previous occasions before applying for this role
Pay rates
- Presiding Officer starting from £261.39
- Poll Clerk starting from £186.84
- Postal Vote Opener starting from £14.34 per hour
Please note, the above pay is currently subject to review for and should be used as a guide only.
Count Supervisor £102 flat fee payment, plus £17.00ph (day rate)/£25.50ph (weekend rate) thereafter.
Count Assistant £84 flat fee payment, plus £14.00ph (day rate)/£21.00ph (weekend rate) thereafter.
Personal requirements
To work at our elections, you must be:
- Be 18, or older
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Have a good level of general education
You cannot work for elections if you have campaigned on behalf of a candidate or party, nominated a candidate, or have a personal relationship with an elected representative or candidate. Please contact us if you are unsure whether this applies to you.
Right to Work in the UK
Once you have completed your application form, you will be invited to attend our offices to undertake your Right To Work in the UK check. This takes just five minutes, and you will be asked to present one of the following:
- A Passport – You can use expired passports, as long as the image remains a good likeness.
- A full birth certificate issued in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland accompanied by an official document giving the applicant's permanent National Insurance Number.
- A residence permit, registration certificate or document certifying or indicating permanent residence.
