Warwick District Council has identified that your local park, which we call Wych Elm Drive, has scored average for quality in an open space audit. For this reason funding has been set aside for improvements to the area.
The Green Space Development Team has come up with some ideas which are shown below an on the plan of the site. The aim is to make the area more attractive to residents and visitors.
The improvements we are looking at are as follows:
- New play area items
Option 1: Retain current set up but renew items within the fenced off area.
Option 2: Extend the play area and install some additional items such as a trim trail, and renew existing items.
Option 3: Remove play area as thought to be not well used. - Footpath improvements – repair existing footpaths through and around the arboretum.
- Selected thinning of the trees and undergrowth – to allow certain species of trees room to develop and improve sightlines through the park.
- Shrub areas – rip out, tidy shrub beds, replant with spring bulbs as necessary.
- Yew Tree – cut back yew, remove the Alder, plant Wych Elm/ Spruce tree.
- Shrub Work and bulb planting – take out shrubs, replant with spring bulbs.
- Remove ivy and undergrowth from trees in the pond area to help healthy tree growth and to improve sightlines throughout the site.
- Vegetation management – better ongoing management of vegetation on property boundaries bordering the park. Management of the vegetation within the arboretum.
- Interpretation panel and signage – improved signage and an interpretation board explaining the arboretum, history and benefits.
- Pond area - cut growth back to ground level in pond area, treat brambles with weed treatment, plant more colourful species of plant, half this year half in 2017.

Friends of Group
We are very keen to develop a friends of group for this park in order to have community involvement. This is also a very good way of extra management of the park with aid in the direction of future development, also it provides a good way of drawing in extra funding through bids of grant money. Please indicate on the survey form if you are interested in being part of the friends of group.
