Grey bin collection
The grey bin is collected every fortnight, normally on the opposite week to your red box/bag and green bin collection.
Please use your grey bin for household items that CANNOT be recycled. All rubbish must be contained in the grey bin supplied by the council with the lid firmly closed. Bags of rubbish left anywhere around the bin will not be collected. Any extra rubbish can be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Refuse sack collection (properties without a grey bin)
There are some properties (mainly in town centre areas) that cannot have a grey bin due to access or storage restrictions. These properties receive a weekly rubbish collection using sacks.
Households need to supply their own rubbish sacks for this service. Up to 2 sacks can be placed out for collection each week.
A garden and food waste collection scheme cannot be provided to these properties as there is currently no alternative to a green wheeled bin. Please take your garden waste to a Household Waste Recycling Centre. Alternatively it can be composted at home.
Putting out your rubbish for collection
Place your grey bin / refuse sacks at the edge of your property, where it meets the public highway, by 7am for collection. Please do not put them out before 7pm the night before collection. For properties receiving the refuse sack collection scheme, any bags of rubbish presented before this time may be considered as flytipping which is an offence. Grey bins should be returned to your property as soon as possible after collection.
If you forget to put your bin out, the collection crew will not be able to return. You will need to wait two weeks until your next collection.
Report a missed bin collection
Please report a missed bin as soon as possible after 4pm on the day collection. We aim to return within the next 2 working days so please leave it out in its normal place for collection.
Bank holiday collections
Collections are made as normal on all bank holidays, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Some of your collections will change over Christmas due to this.
Damaged or missing bins
Householders are responsible for safely securing their bins. If you move home the bins must be left at the property for the new residents. Should your bin go missing or gets damaged please telephone 01926 456128 or Order a waste container online. For fees and further details visit Waste container charges.
Recyclable or hazardous items
Your grey bin / refuse sacks MUST NOT BE USED for items that we collect for recycling or for potentially hazardous waste such as:
- Garden waste
- Rubble, stones, soil
- Liquids (including paint and oils)
- DIY materials; such as plaster, wallpaper, wood etc
- Gas canisters
- Heavy items
The local Household Waste Recycling Centres can advise on the safe disposal of unwanted items. Contact them on 01926 412593.
Large and bulky items
We run a chargeable bulky waste collection service for large household items such as furniture, cookers, fridges etc.
Too much rubbish?
We can offer advice if you are struggling to fit all of your non-recyclable rubbish into your grey bin or refuse sacks, particularly for large households or households with children using disposable nappies.
