Residents of Warwick district can now step outside and connect with their local community at nine different health walks across the district.
Walking for Health is England’s largest network of health walks, helping people across the country lead a more active lifestyle and to meet local people in their area.
Warwick District Council has been facilitating the creation of walks across the district’s towns and villages in partnership with local GP surgeries, and has so far delivered nine walks, with Whitnash Medical Centre being the most recent addition.
The walks vary in length and duration but all encourage the active participation of local residents regardless of their age or ability.
Karen Mitchell and Jane Wright, residents of Chase Meadow, have set up two walks for Chase Meadow and the wider community: Meet and Walk, which takes place every Tuesday from 11am to 12pm, then Rendezvous & Ramble which takes place on the same day at the later time of 7pm to 8pm.
Karen said: “Chase Meadow Meet & Walk offers you the opportunity to get some fresh air and feel healthier whilst meeting new people in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
“Rendezvous & Ramble was set up because when we started to advertise Meet & Walk, it soon became evident that groups of people that work all day or are home alone with the children were looking for an opportunity to take part in our walks at a time that suited them.”
Councillor Judy Falp, Portfolio Holder for Health & Community Protection, says: “Walking for Health is a fantastic initiative that helps to increase people’s fitness, reduce social isolation and provide a greater feeling of community. We are proud to have nine walks in the district that are improving the wellbeing of our residents.”
The nine available walks are:
- Sydni Stroll for Beginners – SYDNI Community Centre
- Shrubland Strollers – Brunswick Hub, Leamington Spa
- Priory Pools Park – Warwick
- Chase Meadow Meet & Walk
- Chase Meadow Rendezvous & Ramble
- Hampton Magna Walk & Talk
- Castle Medical Centre – Kenilworth
