Christmas shoppers, visitors and businesses will benefit from free parking in Leamington Spa next month, while demolition works continue at the Covent Garden car park.

From 1 to 28 (excluding 25 and 26) December 2025, Warwick District Council will make available more than 80 parking bays at its former HQ at Riverside House on Milverton Hill. These will be available at no cost, seven days a week, from 8am to 7pm to give residents and commuters additional spaces to park during the busy festive period.

The Council is currently progressing works to reduce the height of the Covent Garden multi-storey building (closed in 2023), to bring the lower two levels back into use for long-stay parking. This has resulted in a temporary closure of a section of the adjacent Covent Garden Surface Car Park to allow contractors DSM Demolition Ltd to carry out the demolition and associated works safely.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood, Councillor Will Roberts, commented:
“We want to thank neighbours, businesses and regular users of the Covent Garden Car park for their patience and understanding while we complete this work. Although the project is progressing well, we will not be able to fully reopen the surface car park before the New Year. December is a critical time for our town centre shops, services and hospitality, and we want to do everything we can to boost footfall and the local economy in the run-up to the festive season. We hope that local people will make use of the new free parking option made available to them this year.”

The Riverside House Car Park will be open daily from 8am to 7pm from 1 to 28 (excluding 25 and 26) December 2025, and it is free to use during these times.

Further details about the Covent Garden works and a list of alternative car parks can be found on the Warwick District Council website.
