Grey bin collection

Waste binThe grey bin is collected every three weeks.

Please use your grey bin for household items that can not be recycled. All rubbish must be contained in the grey bin with the lid firmly closed. Bags of rubbish left anywhere around the bin will not be collected. Any extra rubbish can be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Refuse sack collection (properties unsuitable for a grey bin)

Refuse sacks

Properties that can't have a grey bin due to access or storage restrictions (mainly in town centre areas), will receive a fortnightly rubbish collection using sacks.

Households need to supply their own rubbish sacks for this service. Up to 2 sacks can be placed out for collection each fortnight.

Certain properties in these areas may be suitable for wheeled bins. These properties will have a refuse collection every two weeks, using sacks or a grey wheeled bin.

Putting out your rubbish for collection

Put out your grey bin or refuse sacks by 6am for collection, placed at the edge of your property where it meets the public highway.

Please do not put refuse sacks out before 7pm the night before collection. Any bags of rubbish put out before this time may be considered as fly-tipping, which is an offence.

Grey bins should be returned to your property as soon as possible after collection.

If you forget to put your bin out, the collection crew will not be able to return. You will need to wait until your next collection.

Report a missed bin collection

Please report a missed bin as soon as possible after 4pm on the day of collection. We aim to return to collect missed bins within 2 working days. Please leave the missed bin in its normal place for collection.

Bank holiday collections

Collections are made as normal on all bank holidays, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Some of your collections will change over Christmas due to this.

Damaged or missing bins

Householders are responsible for safely securing their bins. If you move home, the bins must be left at the property for the new residents. You can order replacement waste containers online:

Recyclable or hazardous items

Your grey bin or refuse sacks must not be used for items that we collect for recycling or for potentially hazardous waste, such as:

  • garden waste
  • rubble, stones, soil
  • liquids (including paint and oils)
  • DIY materials; such as plaster, wallpaper, wood etc
  • tyres
  • gas canisters
  • heavy items

The local Household Waste Recycling Centres can advise on the safe disposal of unwanted items.

Large and bulky items

We run a chargeable bulky waste collection service for large household items such as furniture, cookers, fridges.

Too much rubbish?

We can offer advice if you are struggling to fit all of your non-recyclable rubbish into your grey bin or refuse sacks, particularly for large households or households with children using disposable nappies.
