Warwick District Council is responsible for the regulation of certain industrial processes that have the potential to cause air pollution. We currently regulate approximately 30 processes across the district including a crematorium, vehicle re-spraying operations and cement batching plant. Officers in the Environmental Protection Team work closely with industry to help improve environmental performance and to ensure compliance with regulations.

The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 specify which industrial processes are required to hold permits. Some permits are issued by the district council, whilst others are issued by the Environment Agency. The fees and charges for operating authorised processes are set by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA). Further guidance and advice on fees and charges can be found in the Local Authority Pollution Control: general guidance manual.

The Gov.uk website also has the application forms needed to apply for a permit. A full list of permitted processes within Warwick district is available below. It is strongly recommended that operators of industrial processes who wish to apply for a permit contact the Environmental Protection Unit in the first instance to discuss their requirements in detail.

Processes holding permits are also required to apply for permission to make any substantial change to their process. A 'substantial change' is defined in Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016.
