Completion of the first new council homes this century
Local councillors and officers joined residents of Great Field Drive, Chase Meadow on Thursday to officially mark the completion of the first new council homes this century.
Of the twenty one new properties which have been developed by Taylor Wimpey, on behalf of Warwick District Council, six have now been rented by the council and fifteen are in shared ownership. These new homes have added much needed affordable homes to the council stock and have been built to the latest standards in energy efficiency.
All of the homes have now been allocated with the first residents moving in last August.
In his opening speech Councillor Peter Phillips, Warwick District Council’s portfolio holder for Housing and Property Services commented "These homes are a great landmark for Warwick residents and we have received some fantastic feedback from new occupants who have moved into this development."
Resident Alan Varey who moved into the development in December said "This has been an ideal opportunity for us as we were looking for a property to rent in Warwick when I started my new job and my wife began her university degree course."
Following the opening ceremony guests were invited to the Chase Meadow Community Centre for refreshments and to see displays of some of the other affordable and council housing projects currently being undertaken by the council. These include Sayer Court a development of 81 homes for the over 55s on Tachbrook Drive, Leamington, which is due to open in the autumn.
