Royal Leamington Spa will be playing its part in the lighting of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons next month with a traditional ceremony set to take place in the Pump Room Gardens.

Warwick District's Beacon will be one of thousands to be lit across the UK to mark the start of the Jubilee celebrations. The event which will take place from 9pm on Thursday 2 June will feature bagpipes and a bugler ahead the official lighting at 9.45pm by the Chair of Warwick District Council, Mini Mangat and Mayor of Royal Leamington Spa, Nick Wilkins.

In line with a long-held tradition the Warwick Town Crier will make a public proclamation to announce the event at 2pm.

Councillor Mini Mangat, Chair of Warwick District Council, said:

“I am extremely proud that we are able to keep up with this long and unbroken tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of a beacon. By choosing a more accessible location in the majestic Pump Room Gardens, we very much hope that local people are able to join us for this wonderful historic occasion.”

The Town Councils are hosting a number of special Platinum Jubilee events over the Bank Holiday, with food, drink, and entertainment:

  • Thursday 2 June – Market Place, Warwick – 12pm to 7pm
  • Friday 3 June – Warwick Road, Kenilworth - 11am to 4pm
  • Saturday 4 June – Pump Room Gardens, Leamington Spa – 11am to 6pm

There are also dozens of street parties and celebrations taking place across the district with a full list of road closures in place over the weekend available on the Council’s website.
