This week marks the UK’s first Race Equality Week, a week when organisations across the country unite in activity to seriously address race in the workplace.

At Warwick District Council, a motion was passed in June last year in which we reaffirmed our commitment not to tolerate discrimination in any form, and to engage with our local communities to understand how we as a Council can overcome the many disadvantages experienced by ethnic minority groups.

A Task & Finish Group was established to review our approach to equality and diversity with a focus on race, and they have begun by looking at our internal approach to race equality to ensure an inclusive workforce.

We reaffirm our commitment not to tolerate discrimination in any form, and to ensure that Warwick district is a safe and inclusive place for everyone to live, work and visit.

Councillor Mini Mangat, Chair of the Council's Task & Finish Group that was established last year to review our approach to equality and diversity with a focus on race, comments, “Race Equality Week is a really important week to promote the importance of racial equality.

"WDC is on a progressive journey to become an anti-racist organisation and Race Equality Week will further enhance this council’s commitment not only to provide a safe and inclusive place to work for everyone in society, including those from ethnically diverse communities, but also a culture that is positive and equal for all.”
