The regeneration of Spencer Yard has come one step closer with agreement to progress with the first stage of Leamington’s Creative Quarter plans.

On 17 November, Warwick District Council’s Executive gave their go ahead to finalise a Development Agreement with regeneration partners Complex Development Projects (CPD). Their approval will make way for the rejuvenation of a number of empty buildings in Spencer Yard including the Grade II listed United Reformed Church, the Old Dole Office and the former nursery building into flexible work spaces for Leamington’s creative industries. There will also be further work to explore the potential of the site as a venue for community events.

It is hoped that much of the building work can be completed ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Leader of Warwick District Councillor, Councillor Andrew Day commented;

“This is a watershed moment, and I am delighted that in a few months’ time we could see the transformation of an underutilised area into a vibrant and eclectic space. As our district starts to recover from the effects of the pandemic, it’s important that we seize the opportunity to the reignite the creative talent and innovation in our community by making our Creative Quarter ambitions a reality.”

It is expected that a planning application for Spencer Yard will be submitted in December 2020. Further regeneration projects linked to the Creative Quarter will be considered by the Council in the coming months.
