There is less than three weeks to go until the world’s leading cyclists ride into Warwickshire for Stage 7 of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain

Warwick District Council’s Events team is gearing up to welcome top teams, riders and spectators for a memorable ‘Grand Depart’ from Warwick on 13 September at 11am.

In order to accommodate the large entourage that an international event of this calibre brings, the official stage start will be from Warwick Racecourse. From there a new route will take riders right through Warwick town centre taking in both the Market Square and Smith Street, allowing spectators to line the streets and get close to the action.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Business and Environment Councillor Alan Rhead commented;

“It’s a great privilege to be welcoming British Cycling’s premier road cycling event and the most prestigious race in Britain to our district once again. By hosting the stage start in Warwick, it’s a great opportunity not only for fans, but also for local people to come out to watch 120 top professionals race past their doorstep. The success of the Women’s Tour and last year’s Tour of Britain clearly demonstrates the boost this event can bring to our local economy. Why not get to Warwick early to enjoy the wonderful range of cafes for a pre-race breakfast or coffee, before finding a spot along the streets to cheer the competitors on?”
