A musical ensemble made up of newly arrived and long-term residents from Syria will be giving a special concert to support local refugees on Saturday 29 September.

The London Syrian Ensemble is an orchestra made up of musicians who were formerly students of the prestigious Damascus Conservatoire, but have been forced to flee their war-torn country.

Despite their troubled past the ensemble will give the audience a joyous performance of classical and traditional music from the region offering a positive and optimistic opportunity to celebrate Syrian culture.

The event has received support from Warwick District Council and is being organised by the voluntary group Welcome Here Leamington & Warwick. Their Chair, Penny Halpin commented: “This promises to be a very special concert – the music is exceptional and it is really exciting that they are performing locally for us – their recent performances include venues such as the Barbican and this will be the first time they have performed in the West Midlands. Our Syrian families are really looking forward to introducing local people to the wonderful music from their home country.”

The concert takes place at All Saints' Parish Church on Saturday 29 September at 7.30pm

Tickets are £13 in advance or £15 on the door. You can buy tickets:
