With less than 24 hours to go until Britain’s biggest cycle race hits the streets of Warwickshire, Leamington Spa is awaiting the arrival of spectators to watch the stage finish on Newbold Terrace.

The recent announcement that Tour de France winners Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome will be competing tomorrow, has heralded intense interest from local people and enthusiasts from further afield.  Warwick District Council’s Events Team wants to encourage visitors to arrive in Leamington early tomorrow and enjoy a great day out in the build up to the race finish and podium presentations on Newbold Terrace at around 3.30pm. From 11am onwards there will be a big screen in the Pump Rooms Gardens with live coverage of the race, food stalls, inflatables and local cycle businesses will have pop-up shops. Across the road in Jephson Gardens will be the official race promo zone featuring all the race sponsors. From 1.30pm until 2.30pm the under-fives can race across the finish line courtesy of Strider Bikes, who produce Balance Bikes for younger children.

Cllr Noel Butler, Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Business commented;

“We are very excited to be welcoming this fantastic international cycle race to our district for the first time. I would encourage spectators to arrive early and use public transport (bus or train services) if possible. Whether you are in Kenilworth, Warwick or Leamington I really hope that you will come out with your flags and cheer the competitors on and enjoy the carnival atmosphere.”
