There is good news for more than 5,000 local residents, with the announcement of a major programme of investment to the district’s Council homes.

Warwick District Council’s Executive gave the go ahead for over £11 million to be spent on a substantial programme of improvements to Council owned housing over the next two years. Councillors also approved an additional £3.2 million for further upgrades recommended by the Council’s Housing Services team.

If the funding is given final approval by Full Council on 19 September, work will begin on homes, buildings and developments, which have been identified through the Council’s Stock Condition Survey carried out in 2016-17. The improvements will range from new roofing, kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors or insulation, with the aim of ensuring that all Council owned properties meet a high standard both internally and externally.

In a further move the Executive made a commitment to improve the Energy Efficiency Rating of the buildings in Council ownership, so that they even exceed those required in the private sector.  The Council has pledged to put in place an improvement programme which will enable the energy performance of the Council’s homes to achieve an EPC rating of D, or higher wherever possible.

Warwick District’s Portfolio Holder for Housing Services, Councillor Peter Phillips commented;

“These are far reaching proposals to ensure all our tenants will have homes that are of a decent and modern standard. Improving energy efficiency will provide warmer homes for our Council tenants and help reduce their fuel bills at a time of increasing gas and electricity prices.”
