In a move to build more affordable homes, Warwick District Council is submitting a bid to the Government which will potentially allow hundreds of new Council homes to be built in the district.

The Council’s Executive has given its approval for an application to be made to central government for additional borrowing to cover the building and development costs of 400 new homes, of which 340 would be designated as affordable Council properties.  The move follows a recent change in policy, allowing local authorities to access additional funds for affordable housing.

If the bid is successful a number of sites across the district have already been identified as suitable locations for new Council homes.

Warwick District Council’s portfolio holder for Housing Services, Councillor Peter Phillips commented;

“I am very pleased that the Executive has given the green light to seek additional funds from those recently made available by the Government to deliver on our ambition of creating a significant number of affordable homes, in particular for families or young people wanting to stay in the area.”
