As well as looking after 5,500 council homes, Warwick District Council is responsible for monitoring the quality of privately rented and owned homes.

To support this, every five or so years the Council’s Housing Team undertakes an extensive quality survey of privately rented and owner-occupied properties to provide a health check on local homes.

The purpose of the survey is to identify the numbers, types and condition of homes in the private sector within the district. The results of the survey will be used to inform the Council’s Housing and Homeless Strategy, allowing resources to be allocated to the areas in the greatest need.

The Council has appointed building specialists Arcus Consulting to complete the ‘Stock Condition’ survey and later this month they will begin an inspection of 1,300 randomly selected occupied and privately rented properties.

Surveyors from the company will be visiting these homes, on behalf of the Council to look at the age and general condition of the buildings, any health and safety issues and energy efficiency. The surveys should take around 45 minutes to complete and the Council will be extremely grateful for the assistance and cooperation of the tenants, landlords and home-owners who have been chosen.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing & Property Services, Councillor Peter Phillips commented;

“The Council takes the standard of accommodation and wellbeing of all residents living in our district very seriously. This survey will help to provide us with a comprehensive picture of property conditions across all types of property whether rented or owned, which will help us develop our future housing policy and help ensure that investment is made where it is most needed.”

The inspections begin on 20 August and the survey expected to take up to 6 months. Once completed the results will be presented to Councillors and published on the Warwick District Council website.

All surveyors will carry photographic Arcus Consulting Identification. If a surveyor contacts you or you have any concerns you can contact privatesectorhousing@warwickdc.gov.uk or call 01926 456358 for further information.
