Residents across Warwick District are invited to join the annual Diwali light switch on event in Leamington Spa on Sunday 1 November 2026, from 5.30pm to 8pm, at the top of the Parade.
Organised by Councillors Naveen Tangri and Hema Yellapragada, this year’s celebration will be the most inclusive yet, bringing together people from the many linguistic and cultural communities of Indian origin living in the UK.
The programme will feature traditional and contemporary performances from different regions of India, including Rajasthani folk dance, Bhangra, Bengali dance, Marathi folk dance, Bharatanatyam, Dhol drummers and a selection of Bollywood songs and dances.
The Happy Diwali light will be switched on by councillors and dignitaries at around 6:30pm.
Shree Krishna Mandir will be hosting a vegetarian and vegan Indian food stall from approximately 5pm to 9pm. Teas and samosas will also be available to purchase.
Councillor Naveen Tangri said:
“Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, and it is a festival that belongs to everyone. This year, I wanted to reflect the full richness of India’s cultures, from Rajasthan and Punjab to Bengal, Maharashtra and the South, so that every community can see itself in the celebration.
“This event has grown from strength to strength, and I warmly invite residents, families, businesses and faith groups from across Warwick District to come along and share in the music, dance, food and festive spirit.”
Councillor Hema Yellapragada added:
“Diwali is a celebration of light, hope and togetherness, and I am delighted that this year’s event will reflect the rich cultural diversity of Indian communities living in the UK. Celebrated by Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities, Diwali also provides an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to come together and share in its message of hope and unity.
“I warmly invite residents from across Warwick District to join us for what promises to be a colourful, inclusive and uplifting evening.”
