Warwick District Council is celebrating the transfer of the first of twenty new Council homes to its ownership.
The homes provide much needed affordable and energy efficient housing options for local people.
Located at Taylor Wimpey’s Tournament Fields development in Warwick, the properties ranging from one-bedroom maisonettes to four bedroomed family homes will be transferred to the Council in phases over the next six months. They will then be made available for social rent, affordable rent or shared ownership options through the HomeChoice register.
As the first development to be delivered to the Council’s Net Zero Carbon Development (DPD) standard (adopted in 2024) the scheme also marks a significant milestone for Warwick District, with all homes benefitting from photovoltaic solar panels and air source heat pumps, helping to support the Council’s ‘low cost, low carbon’ ambitions.
Councillor Jessica Melrose, Portfolio Holder for Housing commented:
“These new Council homes are fantastic and a welcome addition to our housing stock, in particular the one and two bedroomed rentable properties which are most needed. They will give more local people and families the chance to put down roots in affordable, comfortable homes that are designed for the future.
"With a range of sizes and tenures, this development will help us respond to different housing needs and build stronger, thriving communities.”
Councillor Chris King, Portfolio Holder for Place added:
“This is exactly the kind of forward-looking development we want to see in Warwick District. Delivering much-needed affordable homes to our Net Zero Carbon DPD standard demonstrates that tackling housing need and responding to the climate emergency can go hand in hand.
"Solar panels and air source heat pumps will help make these homes more sustainable and set a strong benchmark for future development.”
