Warwick District Council’s CCTV Team has recently passed its annual British Standard 7958 inspection for the 21st consecutive year, demonstrating that the team are operating to the highest standards.

BS 7958 is a British Standard that provides guidelines for the management and operation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) control rooms.

It aims to ensure that CCTV control rooms are operated effectively, ethically, and in compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements. The standard covers various aspects of CCTV control room operations including staffing, training, equipment, procedures, and data protection.

By adhering to BS 7958, local authorities can enhance their CCTV operations, meet legal obligations, improve public safety, and uphold public trust in their surveillance practices.

Councillor Jim Sinnott, Portfolio Holder for Safer, Healthier and Active Communities said:

“I’m extremely proud of the achievements of the CCTV team, who continue to demonstrate their commitment to providing the highest standards of service in keeping our communities safe.

“I know that the whole team wear this achievement as a badge of honour and are proud of their involvement in making Warwick District a safer place to live, work & visit.”

The Council’s CCTV team operate 24/7 throughout the year to enhance public safety and assist partners including Warwickshire Police.

The team have prevented 35 possible thefts in the last two months by working alongside retailers in the town centres, and have assisted the police with several high profile investigations and operations.

CCTV is more than just crime prevention. In the past few months, the team have located 9 missing people, and provided reassurance for event organisers putting on events in the town centres.
