World Bowls and Bowls England are pleased to announce that the 2027 World Bowls Championship will be held in Royal Leamington Spa from 20 July to 1 August 2027.

The event will build off the legacy of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and deliver a world-class experience that will elevate Bowls around the globe.

The event will see 12 days of world class competition, welcoming over 27 nations from across the globe. The very best players from England, Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, Wales, Malaysia, Ireland and many more will descend upon the prestigious greens of Victoria Park to compete across Men’s, Women’s and Para events.

As the first time that the international competition will be hosted in the Northern Hemisphere since 2004, this is a once in generation opportunity to see the best of the best compete to become World Champions.

World Bowls CEO, Neil Dalrymple said:

“Announcing the dates for the 2027 World Bowls Championship marks an exciting milestone on our calendar. Royal Leamington Spa is synonymous with excellence in bowls, and we are proud to bring the world’s top players to such an iconic venue.

"This championship will showcase the very best elements of our sport – being the most inclusive and diverse in the world – whilst also delivering a compelling spectacle for fans both on-site and watching around the globe. With its natural drama, skill and accessibility, bowls presents a unique broadcast opportunity, and we look forward to engaging new audiences and elevating the sport’s global profile through this event.”

Event Director, James Wurr, said:

“Since announcing that England won the bid to host, there has been plenty of work taking place behind the scenes to make sure that this event delivers against our vision. We want to deliver a world-class Championship event which celebrates the tradition and history of both the local area and the sport as well as inspiring more people to play Bowls by seeing it at it’s very best, on home soil.”

Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, has a rich bowling history. Victoria Park played host to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, where England came away with seven medals, and is also home to the annual Bowls England National Bowls Finals. With expected visitors from around the globe, the 2027 World Bowls Championship will celebrate bowls across the world, whilst showcasing the rich heritage that England has to offer – putting Royal Leamington Spa and its surrounding areas on a global stage.

Cllr Jim Sinnott, Portfolio Holder for Safer, Healthier and Active Communities adds:

“Warwick District Council has a long relationship with the sport of lawn bowls, and we are delighted to host the 2027 World Bowls Championship here at our world class greens in Royal Leamington Spa. We look forward to welcoming players and spectators from all over the world, who will be able to enjoy all that the district offers, from busy town centres to arts and heritage as well as beautiful parks and gardens.”

The 2027 World Bowls Championship is more than just a sporting event. The vision is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment, fostering a sense of community both within the existing bowls family and expanding its reach to new audiences.
