Warwick District’s cycling community came together last month to celebrate the opening of the brand-new cycling hub at Newbold Comyn.

The hub was officially opened by Andy Robson from Royal Leamington Spa Cycling Club (RLSCC), the Chairman of Warwick District Council, Councillor Naveen Tangri, and Director of Mercia Cycles, Roger Hackley Royal Leamington Spa Cycling Club on Saturday 20 September, at the inaugural Newbold Dash event organised by RLSCC.

Situated in the converted Grade II listed barns at Newbold Comyn, the hub is operated by local company Mercia Cycles, providing bicycle hire, repairs, servicing and skills courses.

The event also provided the opportunity to celebrate the success of the cycle trails, which since they opened have seen over 600,000 rides take place.

The Newbold Dash event featured timed races, coaching demos, free bike checks, a photo competition and a selection of food and drink.

Councillor Jim Sinnott, Portfolio Holder for Safer, Healthier and Active Communities said:

“It was great to see so many people coming together to celebrate the opening of the hub. We are delighted to have provided the community with a secure off-road place to gain cycling skills and confidence, alongside the many activities you can enjoy at Newbold Comyn – whether you’re cycling, walking, running, visiting the gym or enjoying the beautiful wildlife.”

Alex Craig, RLSCC Committee member said:

"The trails focus on creating space that encourages people to get into riding - the trails will encourage social riding, coaching, and events, all in an absolutely beautiful and accessible traffic-free environment. What we have is more than a network of paths - it is a hub for health, for wellbeing, and we really hope that people will get active, get outdoors and discover the joys of cycling.

“We look forward to the memories and the skills that are going to be forged here and the fun times that everybody's going to have."

Andy Robson, from RLSCC said:

"When you look around you, this is why. This is why we have created this - it's a free-to-use facility, and we've got all ages here from 3 to 73, with a brilliant community who look out for each other. Thank you to everyone who has been involved along the way and supported this dream in becoming a reality.

“Whether people are here to ride, race, jump or chill - everyone's welcome, and we are delighted to officially open the trails and the hub. We are super proud of this facility, and it really shows how committed the people of Leamington are to a sustainable, green, and bright future."

Roger Hackley, Director of Mercia Cycles said:

“We are delighted to have officially opened the Newbold Comyn Cycle Hub and to see so many people from across the community join us for the launch. The event was a real celebration of cycling, bringing families, riders, and local residents together.

“As the appointed operator of the Cycle Hub, we look forward to welcoming even more people onto the trails, supporting them with bike hire, repairs, and skills sessions, and helping to create lasting memories for all who visit.”
