At their meeting on Tuesday 11 February members of Warwick District Council’s Planning Committee gave their outline permission for plans to develop up to 74 new homes on the site of their former HQ.
Full approval was also given for the creation of a new public park in the location of Edmondscote Athletics Track and Field.
The plans for the vacated land at Riverside House which were submitted by the proposed new owners Homes England are in accordance with a development brief set by the District Council in 2021 and follow a public consultation which took place in November 2023.
This stipulates that 40% of any residential development will need to be classified as affordable and meet the Council’s net zero carbon standards for new housing. Also within the parameters of the brief is the protection of the large numbers of mature trees that exist within the site boundary.
Full planning permission has been given to Homes England for the development of Elizabeth Park an enlarged public space which will merge into the existing parkland once the relocation of the Edmondscote Athletics track is complete. The new park will provide local residents with areas of wetland, a wildflower meadow and a new woodland as well as an extension of the riverside path, exercise trail and cycle track.
