We are required by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and the Housing Act 2004 to meet the accommodation needs of the population within their area. This includes the needs of the Gypsy and Traveller community and that of Travelling Show People.

To meet this need Warwick District Council is committed to allocating sustainable and affordable sites to meet the permanent residential needs of this District’s Gypsy and Traveller Community and Travelling Show People through the Local Plan process.

Call for sites

We are required, by national planning policy (NPPF) and the Housing Act 2004, to objectively assess and meet the needs of the population within their area. This includes the needs of the Gypsy and Traveller community.

To meet this need Warwick District Council is committed to allocating sustainable and affordable sites to meet the permanent residential needs of this District's Gypsy and Traveller Community through the Local Plan process.

To enable allocations to be made in the Local Plan the Council has undertaken a 'Call for Sites' for potential sites within the District to be identified. The sites identified through this process and our own ‘areas of search’ will be assessed in terms of their suitability and deliverability through the production of the Local Plan.

We expect to find permanent sites for a total of 31 pitches for Gypsies and Travellers within the life of the Local Plan; 25 during the first five years. An additional site for 6 - 8 transit pitches is also required. To meet this requirement officers have been working to identify sites and a public consultation on site selection took place alongside that for the Local Plan during June and July of 2013.
