Costs and length of a licence
Each licence has a specific duration and it is the licence holders responsibility to renew the licence before it expires. Any licence that is allowed to expire will have been deemed to have lapsed and if the licence holder wishes to regain a licence they must apply as a new applicant and meet the requirements of the appropriate policy.
- A drivers licence is issued for three years.
- A vehicle licence is issued for one year if the vehicle is less than 5 years old from the date of first registration of the vehicle or for six months if the vehicle is older than five years from the date of first registration of the vehicle.
- A private hire operators licence is issued for five years.
