Record details

Common tree name
Cedar of Lebanon
Species Name
Cedrus libani
Description
This is one of two Cedars of Lebanon in the garden. See if you can spot the cones which sit on top of the branches. That’s the way to recognise a Cedar tree. The cones take 18 months to mature, then open and disintegrate releasing their seeds until only the core of the cone remains. It is the national tree of Lebanon, appearing on its flag, and recognisable by its horizontal branches. Cedar wood has a lovely smell and deters insects and moths, so is often used for furniture.
Country of origin
Lebanon, East Mediterranean
