- Description
- This rare tree is best seen from the Newbold Terrace side of the gardens. Native to the river valleys of Iran and central Asia, it loves to be planted by water. There are two others by the river near the suspension bridge. When you get up close you can tell a wingnut by the shape of the flowers and the seeds which resemble wing-nuts, hence the name. It comes from the Caucasus region between the Black and Caspian Seas and was introduced to England after 1800.
