Dive into the details of our proposal
If agreed upon, all proposed changes will result in one continuous cycle path traversing Abbey Fields. Alternatively, the Swimming Pool could function as the destination for two separate cycle paths arriving at the venue, one from the Borrowell Lane direction and the other from Bridge Street.
The proposed updates are split into 3 sections:
Section A – Borrowell Lane to Finham Brook
This section is for a proposed new three metre wide, shared use walking, wheeling and cycling path across the south western area of Abbey Fields (from Borrowell Lane to the footbridge by the Swimming Pool).
It diverts away from the existing path, passes under the canopy of existing trees and crosses a grassed area before rejoining the existing path at the footbridge across the Finham Brook.
The existing path, alongside the hedge, could then be retained or removed altogether.
Section B – Path around proposed new swimming pool (including duck feeding platform area)
This section includes the existing bridge over the Finham Brook and around a newly designed duck feeding platform area. The path follows the outside of the proposed swimming pool and joins up with the access road to the new swimming pool from Bridge Street.
Please note: some parts of the path will be restricted in width due to the limited space between the swimming pool building and lake (pinch points of approximately 2.3m and 2.5m).
Section C – Swimming Pool to Bridge Street
This section will utilise the existing access road from Bridge Street to the front of the new swimming pool. The upgraded access road will allow restricted vehicle access (disabled badge holders wishing to use the swimming pool and delivery/service vehicles for the swimming pool).
