Abbey Fields shared use path
Since approval was given in April 2026 for the completion of a shared path across Abbey Fields, preparation work has started in order make the plans a reality.
The scheme requires various statutory permissions and consents, including planning permission. As a result, the Working Group will be having meetings with the various statutory bodies including Historic England to ensure the planning application meets all its requirements.
Consultants are being procured to consider the ecological and archaeological aspects of the proposals.

Public consultation
A consultation to create a new shared use walking, wheeling and cycling path across Abbey Fields, from Bridge Street to Borrowell Lane, was held from Wednesday 7 May to Thursday 12 June 2025.
We received over 1,000 responses - thank you to everyone for taking the time to share your views.
