Do Summer Safely: working together to keep our events secure
This summer, Warwick District is set to host a wide range of exciting events, from music festivals and outdoor performances to local fairs and community gatherings. We're thrilled to welcome visitors and locals alike to these celebrations, and we want to ensure everyone enjoys these events in a safe and secure environment.
We are working with Counter Terrorism Policing to help keep everyone safe this summer. We are supporting their summer campaign, encouraging the public to stay alert and report anything that doesn’t feel right to security.
Why event safety matters
We all have a role to play in keeping each other safe. By being aware of your surroundings and knowing what to do if something doesn’t feel right, you help us all stay safe. The threat level in the UK remains substantial, meaning an attack is likely, but by staying vigilant, we can collectively reduce risks and increase the security of our events.
How you can help keep our events safe
You can play your part by trusting your instincts, and if you see something that doesn’t feel right, tell security. You don’t need to be an expert in security to make a difference, simple actions can have a big impact, here's how you can help:
- Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks and measures
- Be patient with security checks. It might seem inconvenient, but they are in place to help you
- Keep it simple and minimise what you carry. Fewer bags to search will speed up entry
- Stay alert and look out for each other. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, tell security. Don’t leave it to someone else
- Don’t leave bags unattended. Never agree to look after a stranger’s bag, no matter how genuine they seem
- If there is an incident, listen to staff and any announcements
In an emergency, always call 999.
Have an amazing time, and if you see something that doesn’t feel right, report it to security straight away. Thank you for playing your part.
How to report suspicious activity
If you notice something unusual or suspicious, there are several ways you can report it safely and securely:
- Gov.uk ACT (Action Counters Terrorism): If you have information or concerns about potential terrorist activity, visit gov.uk/ACT to report it anonymously or get more information on how to help. Your information could prevent an attack and keep people safe
- Event Security: Most events have security personnel on site. If you notice anything that seems suspicious, speak to them immediately. They are trained to handle such situations and will take the necessary steps
- The Police: In the event of an emergency or if you believe there is an immediate risk to public safety, don’t hesitate to call 999. If something feels suspicious but isn't urgent, you can call 101 to report non-emergency concerns or advice
- Text a Tip: You can also report suspicious activity via text by sending a message to 61016. This text service is available 24/7 for reporting non-urgent concerns
- Social media and Online Reporting: If you come across something suspicious online, such as a concerning post or message, report it directly to the police via social media channels or use the online reporting services provided by your local force
- Help points for direct contact with the CCTV operations team can also be found around the district. Visit the WDC CCTV team page to view the list.
Remember, if you see something, say something. You could be helping to prevent an incident and ensure the safety of others.
