Sensory stroll listen

You’ve found the Listen Panel on the Priory Pools Sensory Trail. Great job!

Now it’s time to use your ears…

Close your eyes for a few seconds and listen carefully.

What can you hear?

👂 Birds chirping?

🍃 Leaves rustling?

🐾 Footsteps or dogs barking?

🚂 Maybe even a train in the distance?

All these sounds are part of the park’s very own natural orchestra!

Next up: See if you can find our Sensory Stroll bird box. It's nestled in one of the trees behind you. Time to explore!

🐦 Birdsong Detectives
Can you tell the difference between one bird and another?  Here are some of the sounds birds in Priory Pools make:

  • Robin: a cheerful, bouncy song
  • Great Tit: “teacher, teacher!”
  • Woodpigeon: a soft “coo-coo”
  • Blackbird: rich and musical

🎶 Make Your Own Park Music
Try this together:

  • Clap your hands like raindrops.
  • Stamp your feet to make thunder.
  • Shake some leaves for a soft rustling sound.
  • Whistle or hum your own birdsong.

Now mix them together and you’ve made your own Priory Park soundscape!

💡 Did You Know?

  • Bird boxes aren’t just homes, they help make the park sound alive!
  • Each spring, birds build nests inside them, feed their chicks and fill the park with song.
  • You might spot some bird boxes high in the trees, how many can you count on your walk?

🌈 Something to Try at Home

Make a simple “sound collector”:

  1. Find a small notebook.
  2. When you go for a walk, stop and write or draw the sounds you hear - a bird, a bike, a breeze, a bark!
  3. See how many new sounds you can collect each season.

❤️ Remember

Everyone hears the world a little differently. Some sounds might be loud, quiet, funny, or even surprising, and that’s what makes nature’s music so special.
