🦇 Bats
When the sun starts to set, look up! Tiny bats called pipistrelles and sometimes noctules swoop overhead catching insects for their dinner.

🦊 Foxes
Foxes live quietly in the park and sometimes come out at dusk. You might spot their pawprints in muddy paths.

🦌 Muntjac Deer
These small, shy deer sometimes wander through the trees. They’re usually very quiet, so listen carefully!

🐦 Birds
The park is full of birds big and small! Look out for:

  • Robins hopping on the grass
  • Blue tits and great tits flitting between branches
  • Woodpeckers knocking on tree trunks
  • Buzzards circling high in the sky

If you stop and listen, you can hear lots of different bird songs all around you.

🐇 Rabbits
Look near the open grassy areas, those little holes in the ground could be rabbit homes!

🌿 Plants and Trees
Priory pools has tall pine trees, shady paths and colourful wildflowers. These plants give food and shelter to insects, birds and animals all year round.

💡 Top tip!

There are special bird boxes and bat boxes in the park to help keep wildlife safe. Can you spot any while you walk around?

Do you know...
...why the area is called 'Priory Pools'? Take a look at this photograph from Our Warwickshire website and you'll see the area once had ponds and pools!

Priory pools

It is belived that these pools containing fish ponds used by the canons of the old Priory, which was once located in Prior Park, which is why it became known as Priory Pools! Several of the pools were filled in when the railway was being built. By the 1950s the condition of the once beautiful Priory Pools had deteriorated considerably. They were said to be ‘rat and fly’ infested. Due to fears of an epidemic, the remaining pools were filled in during 1965 and in 1968 were landscaped as park. You can find out more about the history of Priory Park and Priory Pools on the Friends of Priory Park website.
