What is retrofitting?

Retrofit means upgrading an existing property to make it warmer, cheaper to run, less draughty and more comfortable to live in. This is achieved by improving the insulation and heating system.

It also includes having ventilation to provide good air quality in your home. By improving the energy efficiency, retrofit also reduces carbon emissions and improves the appearance of your home.

The following measures and technologies may be available through current government funded schemes, subject to availability and an assessment of your home:

  • draught proofing
  • insulation of lofts, walls and floors
  • ventilation
  • low carbon heating systems such as air source heat pumps
  • solar panels
