Abbey Fields redevelopment updates

Severn Trent works - June 2025

Severn Trent will be conducting trial trenches within Abbey Fields from Monday 2 June. Historic England has requested that Severn Trent carry these out prior to the full installation of the main water pipe under a watching brief. These works are required to replace the existing mains water pipe that has failed and follows the same route as the existing pipeline.

The trenches will be dug mainly by hand, so that any findings can be logged by the watching brief as requested by Historic England.

Once the trail trench works are complete, and depending on any findings, a programme will be issued for the full installation of the main water supply pipe by Severn Trent, and the gas pipe by Cadent.

Public meeting - September 2023

Following the discovery of extensive unrecorded medieval remains on the site of the new swimming pool at Abbey Fields, Kenilworth Town Council and Warwick District Council hosted a meeting on 27 September 2023 at St Nicholas Church, to give the public an update on the issues that will now need to be addressed to move the project forward.

At the event representatives from the District Council’s project team gave an overview of the findings and the necessity to draw up detailed revised plans to protect the medieval remains found.

Public update report

A short report was produced to inform residents of the background to the project, the discoveries and the future considerations for the project.
