Works progress update - May 2017

Approval was granted for major improvements to be made Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre and St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre at the Council meeting held on 16th November 2016.

We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued patience and understanding, during the refurbishment work. We know you are keen to know how the work is progressing and when we will start to reopen the facilities. As with many projects of this scale, we have encountered a number of unforeseen infrastructure problems, which unfortunately weren’t identified during the initial site surveys. We are therefore very disappointed to announce that these will cause a delay to our original timetable.

Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre

Building works commenced at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre on 3rd January 2017 and require a complete closure of this centre. The swimming pool, brand new 100 station gym and fitness studios will now reopen in early August 2017, with temporary changing provision for pool users, until the completion of the village changing facilities and sports hall in Spring 2018.

St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre

St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre swimming pool closed on 11th December 2016. The swimming pool and new changing rooms will now reopen two months ahead of schedule at the beginning of September 2017.

In early June the existing gym at St Nicholas Park will be refurbished and new equipment installed enhancing the gym offering for our customers until the new 80 station gym opens in Spring 2018.

Swimming lessons during construction works

We recognise that the construction works will have a significant impact on children’s swimming lessons and we have now added a number of new classes into the pool programme at Abbey Fields Swimming Pool. We are pleased to announce that the expanded swimming lesson programme at Abbey Fields Swimming Pool will remain in place until the autumn of 2017. For more details on weekly swimming lessons and the crash courses contact Abbey Fields Swimming Pool directly on 01926 855478.

Clubs

We have been able to relocate all our swimming pool clubs. Please contact your club officers to confirm where your club has moved to during the works.

Schools

We have helped some of our local schools to find alternative venues to provide swimming lessons to their students. We look forward to inviting the schools back to our leisure centres once the building renovation works have been completed.
