Warwick District Council has identified that your local park which we call Villiers Street Rec has scored average for quality in an open space audit.  For this reason funding has been set aside for improvements to the area.

The Green Space Development Team has come up with some ideas shown below and on the plan of the site also shown below. The aim is to make the area more attractive to residents and visitors.

The improvements we are looking at are as follows:

  1. Tree work to woodland and spinneys – thin out trees, clear some undergrowth and raise canopies in order to improve sightlines throughout the park and increase the feel of safety.
  2. Footpath improvements – improve existing footpaths through the site and install some new footpaths to increase accessibility to and through the site and bring equal access for all.
  3. Play Area – move toddler swing and install new fencing – scope for new equipment such as all access swing and dish and mini trim trail next to the footpath, repair edges of wet pour.
  4. Bollard – install a new bollard to improve site security and restrict access.
  5. Goal Posts and zip wire (or other equipment to cater for older children) – put new five a side goals in with wear pads in front of the goal mouths.  Install a zip wire for older children.
  6. Gate – install new vehicle gate in order to limit access to the park.
  7. General throughout site – improved signage to make site more welcoming.
  8. General throughout the site – improve existing benches and install new benches.
  9. General throughout the site – improve existing bins on site and install more bins.

The consultation ended 25 April 2016.

The aim is to start the work June/ July 2106 depending on weather and contractor availability.

Friends of Group

We are very keen to develop ‘friends of’ group for this park in order to increase community involvement.  This is also a very good way of extra management of the park with aid in the direction of future development; also it provides a good way of drawing in extra funding through bids of grant money. Please indicate on the survey form if you are interested in being part of the friends of group.
