History and heritage

Leamington’s history goes back to the Domesday Book of 1086, when Leamington Priors and Lillington were listed there. For centuries there had been knowledge of saline springs in the area near to the parish church and in 1586 Robert Camden declared this water to be of benefit to health. William Abbots and Benjamin Satchwell decided to exploit the healing properties of the water and so were the driving force behind the growth of the town.

Attractions

There are many attractions in the town, including the Royal Pump Rooms which is home to the Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum, as well as the Library and the Visitor Information Centre; Georgian and Edwardian architecture and buildings throughout the town and numerous churches.

There is ample greenspace in Leamington, with the Pump Room Gardens, Jephson Gardens and Victoria Park, all minutes away from the town centre.

There’s an impressive choice of shopping, bars and restaurants, both independent and national chains.
