2nd August 2022

Location: Leamington Spa

Time: 11:00 - 17:30

ArtsTrail Gallery presents the Commonwealth Trail exhibition.

Cost: FREE

The exhibition supports the Leamington History Group walking tours which coincide with the 2022 Commonwealth Games, part of which will take place in Leamington.

The exhibition opens at the ArtsTrail Gallery on Tuesday 2nd August and finishes Wednesday 31st August.

The Commonwealth Games began life as the British Empire Games in 1930 and now features teams from 54 countries, most of which were from the former British colonies. It is the imperial history that the tour explores, showing how Leamington is connected to the Commonwealth countries including Australia, Canada, India, Guyana and St Kitts. This is a challenging history for understanding the origins of the Commonwealth today.

The Commonwealth Trail exhibition at the ArtsTrail Gallery explores visually these Commonwealth links illustrating both the historical and contemporary, the struggles and achievements with a glimpse into the life of local people from various Commonwealth nations including internationally renown Indian lawyer Cornelia Sorabji, Australian journalist and newspaper editor John Fairfax to boxing world middleweight champion Randolph Turpin whose origins journey from St Kitts to Leamington Spa Willes Road.

Times and Dates: Tuesday 2 - Wednesday 31 August, 11am - 5.30pm

Location: ArtsTrail Gallery, 20 Upper Mall, Royal Priors, Leamington Spa CV32 4XT
