Play me. Street Piano

14th July 2022

Location: Leamington Spa

Time: 10:00 - 15:00

An exciting Rotary initiative that will place unique and inspiring public pianos in prominent locations around the town.

Cost: Free. Turn up and play

This project, inspired by artist Luke Jerram’s ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’ Street Piano artworks (, will see three pianos, painted by local young artists, installed at the Leamington Spa train station, outside the Royal Pump Rooms and inside the Royal Priors shopping centre from 14 July until 30 August 2022

The street pianos will be free for the public to play and enjoy, and help showcase the Rotary Club’s dedication to delivering inspiring experiences for Leamington’s residents. As well as being part of Warwick District Council’s CultureFest, and to celebrate the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games being held in the region, the ‘Games Themed’ pianos are set to enhance the collective experience of being in our wonderful town for tourists, visitors and locals.

May Shaker, the project organiser and member of the Rotary club says:

“Our lives are so busy these days… the painted pianos are an invitation to pause.. to listen to each other ..and to play freely. It’s a chance to have a break and enjoy something we too often ignore.. music. We’re thrilled to be working with so many passionate people to make this project come to life. We can’t wait to see how the amazing artists transform the pianos, and how the public interacts with them.

We are looking to generate smiles, stir emotions, and connect friends and strangers - the pianos are here for everyone to play in our welcoming community.”

The pianos will be painted throughout June in a retail unit provided by the Royal Priors shopping centre, with sneak previews of the artists’ work in progress available to shoppers.

The Club hopes to encourage everyone in our community to engage with each other through music and the visual arts.
