Location: Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum
American photographer who pioneered the photographic approach that bridges the gap between documentary & Fine Art.
Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum is delighted to be hosting ARTIST ROOMS: Diane Arbus this Autumn. Diane Arbus, born in 1923 in New York, is considered one of the great figures of American photography. She pioneered the photographic approach that bridges the gap between documentary and fine art, through her commitment ‘to photograph everybody’. Arbus built up relationships of trust with people to create portraits of astonishing intimacy. The ARTIST ROOMS touring programme is delivered by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate in partnership with Ferens Art Gallery through 2019, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by Art Fund and by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.

#humansofleamington is a series of photographic portraits of people who live and work in Royal Leamington Spa, inspired by the ARTIST ROOM: Diane Arbus exhibition. The portraits, in the style of Arbus’ work, unpick and explore the themes of self-identity and self-expression.
To celebrate the launch of the exhibition, we have commissioned, with the support of our young Ambassadors, a series of 30 portraits of local creatives, which will feature online and in and around Leamington Spa’s Old Town and Town Centre from late September until December 2019.
You can get involved in #humansofleamington by tagging your own portraits on Instagram and Twitter, and we’ll feature them in our exhibition space in the Royal Pump Rooms Foyer.
