Thomas Baker was a Midlands landscape painter and watercolourist often known as “Baker of Leamington” or “Landscape Baker”.
He painted landscapes throughout Warwickshire, the Midlands and the Welsh border regions and also produced depictions of the Lake District, Scotland and Ireland.
Inspired by his teacher, the artist Joseph Barber, Baker became famous for his idyllic, pastoral scenes, often including riverbanks and bridges. Less well known are his sketches of the local urban landscape.
Our collection includes more than 60 artworks by Baker and this Spotlight exhibition will showcase a selection of these works.
