INTIMATE EVENINGS WITH ARMONICO | HANDELIAN PYROTECHNICS
Armonico Consort & Baroque players
Director | Christopher Monks
Countertenor | William Towers

With Bonfire Night approaching, countertenor William Towers pulls a few crackers from Handel’s operatic works. Drawing upon his many years of performing these roles and drawing a few choice items from the Costume Departments of Opera houses worldwide, William breathes new life into Handel’s heroes.

Programme will feature:

G.F. Handel

Ombra mai fu (Xerxes)

Al lampo dell’armi (Giulio Cesare)

Dove sei (Rodelinda)

Arrival of the Queen of Sheba (Solomon)

Music for the Royal Fireworks (Special arrangement for strings and oboes)

Plus arias from Orlando, Agrippina, Radamisto and Poro

‘In the title role, the countertenor William Towers sang superbly, with power, dramatic confidence, ardour and sensitivity’
(Stephen Pettitt, Opera Magazine)

‘The star of the evening is William Towers, the counter-tenor in the title role: tall, commanding, and physically expressive, he sings with a refined musicality, and a delicacy of sound which for most of the time conceals the power held in reserve’
(Michael Church, The Independent)

Kindly sponsored by Sue Dilworth TBC

‘This project will also be recorded and has been generously sponsored by Jack and Hilary Eldridge who have enjoyed listening to William Towers since the early days of Armonico. The recording of this CD has been made possible by a gift from Hilary, Jack and his mother Peggy, in memory of Jack’s father, Angus John Eldridge. Angus loved music all his life and
would have been delighted with this memorial.’
