We're reintroducing parking charges from 1 August 2020
Since lockdown began we’ve been able to offer free parking to assist key workers and support the reopening of our town centres.
Our Rangers were also able to assist with the production and delivery of over 3,000 food parcels for the most vulnerable in our community during the height of lockdown.
Now as we move towards recovery, we’re introducing charges so we can ensure everyone has the opportunity to access the town centres.
Why we're charging
Footfall will steadily be increasing in our town centres as people return to work and to the shops and restaurants they’ve missed. Charging for parking ensures that everyone has the chance to access these businesses by encouraging turnover of parking spaces.
Our Rangers will be patrolling our car parks to ensure that people are parking out of courtesy for others and that access, including disabled bays, is not hindered.
We also want to encourage as many people to walk and cycle as possible, and cycle racks are available in all of our town centres.
Your safety is our priority
Contactless card payments are available in the majority of our car parks. You can also pay using RingGo on your smartphone, which also enables you to extend your parking session should you need to whilst you're out and about.
Please refer to the floor markings in our multi-storey car parks which will help you keep a safe distance from others.
Our Rangers will regularly clean the machines but please sanitise or wash your hands after using them.
St Peter's car park
A new ticketless Automatic Number Plate Recognition barrier system was installed at St Peter’s just before lockdown. Unfortunately the card payment system is not working so for the time being it is a cash only car park. We are working hard to introduce card payments as quickly as we can.
You will need to enter your vehicle registration when you return to the car park (rather than put a ticket in the machine).
The best places to park
If you’re staying all day, our Park & Stride car parks enable you to park from as little as £1 all day, which are just a short stroll from the town centre.
