Extra care to be taken when using the designated BBQ area at Newbold Comyn

During the current heatwave our award winning parks and green spaces have been popular places to cool down or soak up the sun and enjoy a spot of al fresco dining.

With this in mind Warwick District Council is reminding everyone that BBQs are only permitted in the designated BBQ area on Newbold Comyn. They are not permitted elsewhere on Newbold Comyn or in any other parks or open spaces on the ground, grass or on park furniture.

The Council is  urging everyone to be extra careful when using the designated BBQ area at Newbold Comyn, and for those using the facilities to ensure that all litter is taken away and that disposable BBQs are fully extinguished and cold before they are removed.

Councillor Moira-Ann Grainger, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, commented: “The recent wildfires seen in Greece and America are a stark reminder of how dangerous and life-threatening grass fires can be, and how quickly they can spread.

We have endeavoured to maintain our open spaces in this heat, but in areas like Newbold Comyn, the grass is dry and could easily catch fire.

All it takes is one unattended or poorly extinguished BBQ to set one off, so I am urging everyone to ensure they are responsible and considerate when using the designated area.”
