Strategic approach to sustainability and climate change
In January 2015 the council's Executive committee approved Warwick District Council's strategic approach to sustainability and climate change, which sets out how we will respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable district. This document is reviewed annually to ensure it remains fit for purpose and to ensure that the action plan is kept up to date.
The strategy outlines the overarching aims and key objectives, and includes an action plan setting out how we will achieve them. The strategy will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
One of the options we are looking at as part of the strategy is district heating, and we have received funding from the Department of Energy and Climate Change to carry out a heat mapping and energy master-planning study.
Warwick District Council is a signatory to the government's Climate Local initiative.
Climate Local is run by the Local Government Association (LGA) and is the successor to Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change. Its purpose is to drive, inspire and support council action on climate change, both to reduce carbon emissions and to increase resilience to a changing climate. Visit the LGA website for more information about Climate Local.
