Call for Sites
The Council is required, by national planning policy (NPPF) and the Housing
Act 2004, to objectively assess and meet the needs of the population within
their area. This includes the needs of the Gypsy and Traveller community.
To meet this need Warwick District Council is committed to allocating sustainable and affordable sites to meet the permanent residential needs of this District's Gypsy and Traveller Community through the Local Plan process.
To enable allocations to be made in the Local Plan the Council has undertaken a 'Call for Sites' for potential sites within the District to be identified. The sites identified through this process and the Council’s own ‘areas of search’ will be assessed in terms of their suitability and deliverability through the production of the Local Plan.
The Council is expected to find permanent sites for a total of 31 pitches for Gypsies and Travellers within the life of the Local Plan; 25 during the first five years. An additional site for 6 - 8 transit pitches is also required. To meet this requirement officers have been working to identify sites and a public consultation on site selection took place alongside that for the Local Plan during June and July of 2013.
