The Aim of the Planning Service is to:

“Help to maintain and enhance the towns, villages and rural areas of Warwick District as places of special value; enhancing their historic and landscape character whilst enabling high quality, safe and sustainable development that will assist economic diversity and meet the community’s needs for housing and services.”

We take the view that the planning service should ultimately be about making a positive difference for the community, economy and environment in Warwick District. In an expanding district it is important to manage growth and change in a structured way which ensures that this aim is achieved. The planning service at Warwick District Council is divided into a number of key areas:-

Development Control

This is our most familiar service. The Development Control team of the Planning and Engineering Department deal with approximately two thousand planning applications per year.

These range from small-scale domestic extensions to multi-million pound commercial developments including:

This website provides a search and comment facility for recent planning applications / permissions together with access to Planning Committee reports:

NOTE: The Committee agenda / officer reports are made available 5 working days before the date of committee.

As part of a new service being provided, applications can now be made electronically via the Planning Portal. This allows forms, payment and plans to be submitted directly to the District Council via any internet-connected computer. Therefore the Portal allows you submit applications 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

Policy and Projects

The Policy and Projects group is responsible for planning policy for Warwick District.  More information on the role of planning policy in the district can be found on the linked page.

The major planning policy document prepared by the Council is the Local Plan which sets out the scale of development in the district for the next ten years.  Following the Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, local plans will gradually be replaced by Local Development Frameworks.

To find out more about these issues, please go to the following pages:-

The Policy and Projects group is also responsible for two other areas, the preparation of Supplementary Planning Guidance and the provision of land use information.

Consultations

The Council is currently consulting on the following planning policy or conservation documents.

Would you like the Council to keep you informed when we prepare new planning policy documents or carry out public consultations?

Conservation

The Conservation team provides a wide range of services to protect and enhance the historic buildings and areas of the District.

You can find more about the following information on this site.

Building Control

The Building Control team enforce the Building Regulations, which ensure the health and safety of people in and around buildings. Most building work, apart from minor repairs, is covered by the Building Regulations and will require an application to be made.

The Planning Portal

A considerable amount of information on the Planning system nationally is available on the Planning Portal web site.

This site provides access to National policy guidance, government statements, research information and links to many planning related sites. The site is developing at present but already provides a very effective source of information for wider planning queries. It is helpful to those wishing to undertake research into planning related topics or developing wider knowledge of the planning system.
