Results of Planning Committee and contact information

At their meeting of 30 June 2010, the District Council's Planning Committee refused to grant planning permission for the change of use of the site for British Romani Gypsy families for 13 permanent pitches for mobile homes; 13 touring caravans for nomadic use only and 13 utility day rooms and also authorised the serving of an Enforcement Notice.

Planning permission was refused because of the site’s visually prominent and unsustainable location in the open countryside and the Green Belt, and the impact of the development within that context.

In addition to the High Court injunction which continues to have effect in preventing any further building works and the stationing of any further caravans at the site, the District Council has also served the Enforcement Notice which requires the use as a residential caravan site to cease and the reinstatement of the site to its former condition as a grassed field.

The time period for compliance with the Enforcement Notice is 12 months from the date that the Notice takes effect which is 9th August 2010.

There is a period of 6 months over which an appeal against the refusal of planning permission can be made however any appeal against the Enforcement Notice must be made before the date the Notice takes effect. Officers are also continuing to inspect and monitor the site.
